WEEKLY UPDATE

Week #6 was pure floor hockey fun from buzzer to buzzer! Thank you to all the parents on the benches, who help with the quick shift changes and encourage the awesome teamwork.

A reminder that all players must bring both a BLACK and a WHITE shirt at all times, as there may be last-minute changes to the line-ups to balance teams. Please check your emails in case we have any updates.  Additionally, it is invaluable to referees if parents can put a strip of white tape on the front of their child’s helmet with their first name and last initials in black.

RECAPS

Black (B) vs White (B)

A strong start to the day saw seasoned players and new faces working together in a high-energy game that remained tight throughout. Hitting the slab for the first time this season were Branden Paquet, Dezmond Moreno, Loic Harvey, Aleksandre Popov-LeVasseur, and a new goalie, Felix Savage, for players to try their best to score on. The game kicked off with great vision from Rowan Marcantonio, who looks up and reads the floor well to make a fantastic pass back to Tristan Hamzo on White’s defense. The passes keep coming strong from Team White up the floor, resulting in several shots. Marco Provenzano pops it in past Felix, off a rebound to give White a quick 1-0 lead. Solid defense from Team Black’s Noah Gerofsky results in several turnovers, allowing Sam Biljan to tie the game up 1-1 with a quick shot in the slot that zipped past goaltender Sydney Martin glove high. More great defense on White from Jasmine Williams, who shuffles side-to-side, predicting where the ball will go. Liam Robertson sneaks one past her, allowing Isaac Oliver to break away and score a low blocker for Black’s second goal before the second period. Team White settles it up quickly after the break, with August Ruypers' hustle paying off with an assist to Brandon Collette's backhanded goal. In a battle that came down to the wire, both teams gave it their all. Zachary Boileau, assisted by Isaac Oliver, scores the game-winning goal for Black, sliding it just past goalie Sydney. Leading the way was Isaac, who earned the 1st star with a composed and determined performance that truly paid off. The 2nd star shone bright for August for his first point on the board. The 3rd star recognition goes to Liam, who also earned his first point. This game had everything: grit, goals and great goaltending!

Sydney Martin – 3G/18 shots

Felix Savage – 2G/16 shots

Black (A) vs White (A)

We started off the second game with fast feet, fierce passes and players hungry to make an early impact. The opening minutes saw a quick goal from Team Black’s Matthew Ayotte, assisted by Jacob Bow. Déjà vu struck — and just a minute later, they repeated the magic, giving Black a 2-0 lead. In net, both goalies faced relentless shots. A reminder to keep those sticks down - Mason Manuel with a penalty shot that showed off his slick stickhandling but goalie Zach read it well and stood his ground to make a clutch pad save to deny the goal. Jacob Bow scored with a wrist shot goal, assisted by Gavin Charron. Followed by tic-tac-toe passes. We also saw incredible teamwork from Clare Gibson, who cleared the ball to Xavier Nantes, who then passed to Howard Vereyken, who shot a hard one that just trickled past goalie Zach Surette. The first half resulted in a 4-0 rush for Team Black. Defense took center stage in the second half, with both teams locking things down. Team White’s Akito Reinhart brought relentless energy, constantly applying pressure with nonstop pursuit. Equally, Venezia Di Sano held the line on defense, quickly reacting to shut down Black’s breakaways. Teammate Darren Cox used his long stride to make a strong run down the boards, sending a sharp pass across the crease, just out of reach for a finisher. Battles along the wall eventually worked the ball free to Noah Jones, who fired a quick shot on target, only to be denied by a high blocker save from the goalie. The final minutes of the game brought intense one-on-one battles across the floor, resulting in a few key penalties. Xavier Nantes stepped up for a penalty shot and ripped it into the top right corner, scoring the first goal on Reece Barkhouse in this game with a perfectly placed laser. Soon after, Mehdi El Kebir earned a penalty shot, but Reece responded with a strong save to keep the score tight. Team White’s only goal came in the dying moments when Rodrigo made a powerful run down the floor, pulled off a slick deke, and fired a hard shot that slipped past Zach for a beauty of a goal. It was a full-team effort on both sides that made this one fun to watch from start to finish! Jacob Bow (1G, 2A) earned 1st star, Matthew Ayotte (2G) took 2nd, and Xavier Nantes (1G, 1A) claimed 3rd.

Zach Surette – 5G/27 shots

Reece Barkhouse  – 1G/25 shots

*** STARS OF EACH GAME ***

Although it is not all about stats, we want to introduce the kids to HTBHL, so we are providing them with some of the same benefits the adult leagues enjoy.  For the 3 stars in the schedule portion of the website, we will primarily base our decisions on statistics, as we do in our adult leagues. We will also highlight below players in each game that maybe didn't get a star but are good teammates, show good sportsmanship and work hard to improve and had a great week on the floor.

A – Rodrigo Portillo

B – Zachary Boileau

GOALIE: Reece Barkhouse
